STG Civil Rights & Fair Housing

Shishido Taren PLLC prosecutes claims of discrimination and retaliation in housing based on race, creed, color, national origin, sex, honorably discharged veteran or military status, sexual orientation, or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability (Fair Housing). This includes assisting with reasonable accommodation and modification requests, and responding to unlawful denials of RAs and RMs. 

We also hold cities, municipalities, the state, and government officials including police, responsible for civil rights and constitutional violations such as police misconduct, violence, and brutality.

Fair Housing & Accommodations

  • Rental & Sales Housing Discrimination because of race, national origin, color, ethnicity, age, sex, family status (families with children), military status, having a disability or requiring the use of a service or emotional support animal, source of income or use of a Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), such as:

    • Failure or refusal to rent or sell housing 

    • Requiring different terms and conditions of housing,

    • Steering families with children to certain units/floors or buildings within a complex

    • Refusal to make reasonable accommodations or modifications, including refusal to allow service or support animals under a "no-pets" policy

  • Retaliation for Asserting Housing Rights, including:

    • Requesting a reasonable accommodation or modification

    • Associating with people in the above-mentioned protected classes, including guest use of service or support animals

    • Retaliatory eviction notices/threats or raise of rent

  • Lending discrimination, Red-Lining, and Reverse Red-Lining

  • Accessibility for people with disabilities in housing or public accommodations
